Ruby Sayed

Elected Member, City of London

Ruby Sayed – is a practicing Barrister, an active private investor and entrepreneur in the Financial & Renewables sectors and, an elected Member of the Court of Common Council for The City of London Corporation.

Called to the Bar in 1999, she specialises in complex family law cases in the areas of children at risk, child arrangement orders, abduction, adoption, forced marriage, domestic abuseand divorce.

In 2012 she founded a private equity vehicle focussing on  the P2P & speciality finance, renewable energy and sustainable sectors. Her current focus is on the development of utility scale solar projects in emerging European markets. She serves as a non-executive director of Gaia RE Developers Ltd.

Ruby also has a particular interest in Fintech and represents the City of London Corporation on the Fintech Network Action Group. She is proactive in supporting the development of Fintech initiatives at a strategic level at the City of London Corporation.

In addition to her legal and commercial interests Ruby is passionate and active in promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and social mobility in the City and further afield. She serves on a number of City of London Corporation Committees, including the Establishment Committee (Human Resources) and the Education Board.

She has been a Charity Trustee for the past 19 years and currently sits on the Boards of 3 national Charities including the Asian Women’s Resource Centre. Since her involvement, the AWRC has provided help and support to nearly 80,000 vulnerable women and their children, fleeing domestic abuse. In her capacity as Chair since 2015, she has been responsible for conducting and successfully executing a strategic review which has resulted in the Charity’s income doubling and its reserves moving from a deficit to a substantial surplus.
