Marie Charlotte-Johnstone Rouzier
Head of Ecosystem Events
Q. Tell everyone a little bit about yourself and your role at Innovate Finance
A. I am in charge of curating agendas and acquiring speakers for our flagship events (UK FinTech Week, IFGS, FinTech as a Force for Good, etc.). I've been happily doing it for the past four years. This is a challenging and extremely rewarding activity. I am surrounded by incredible role models like Clare Black, Hayley Bromilow, Janine Hirt and our former CEO Charlotte CroSswell. I feel extremely lucky to be able to work in such an environment.
Q. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time away from work?
A. I am the co-founder of a consultancy (wearelift.eu) and we specialise in helping organisations with their equality, diversity and inclusion strategies. I am also an adviser at ELEMENTARYb; the co-founder of the app myCrd in Ghana; and I help Industry IoT with their community engagement. I am a single mum and my girls are aged 1 and 3 respectively so spare time does not really exist! I'm a yoga and pole dance instructor, but I unfortunately do not have time for it at the moment. Again, I feel extremely lucky Innovate Finance have always had my back to allow me to have the lifestyle I wanted and to accept me as I am.
Q. What are some of your favourite things about working in FinTech?
A. The "anything is possible" mindset. Entrepreneurs are going for it, taking risks and showing the world that things do not have to stay the way they are. Diversity and social mobility are a problem in this industry but what is absolutely fantastic is that the industry is constantly reviewing how it functions to be more inclusive. Innovate Finance supports these trends, we have our own programmes (FinTech for Schools, Women in FinTech, etc.) but the industry does it as well. Founders and CEOs, VCs and investors are constantly questioning the status quo to make the ecosystem better.
Q. You can invite any 3 people to your dinner party. Who do you choose and why?
- My best friend and co-founder Magdalena Thurin because she is the brightest and kindest soul
- Philippe Djian because he is my favourite author
- Ben Barnes because he is incredible to look at (apparently he sings as well, so win-win)
