IFGS 2019 Speaker Spotlight: Suchitra Nair, Director at Deloitte and the EMEA Centre for Regulatory Strategy

What is it about IFGS that brings you back every year? OR What is it about IFGS that has brought you to the event this year?
Three things that bring me back every year – the breadth of expertise of the speakers, the international focus (not London centric) and the inspirational buzz of being around innovators.

What is the biggest change you have seen in the FinTech industry over the past 12 months? Two big ones for me:

Greater buy-in at senior levels to spend the money – incumbents are rolling up their sleeves and getting serious about experimentation and collaboration with FinTechS

Regulators are moving away from just issuing high-level warnings to considering how innovation may actually interact with regulation and where the gaps or barriers

What do you believe to be the most vital implication of Brexit on UK Fintech?
SN- Uncertainty. Not unique to FinTech of course but any constraints and uncertainties around data flows and jurisdictional silos will slow down growth. But I think FinTechs are agile and creative and will find a way through.

What are your go-to reads for industry updates and insights?
SN – FT, Medium, WEF reports, Deloitte publications, Linkedin and depending on the topic – Fintech times, coindesk etc. But the best insights come from one-to-one conversations with incumbents and startups.

If you could be stuck in a lift with 3 people who would it be and why?
SN – Arlan Hamilton of Backstage capital – truly inspiring – I want to hear her story from her; Roger Federer – I love tennis and his staying power is phenomenal; and Paul Merton (the comedian) –to keep things light!
