Innovate Finance 5th Birthday: Employee Spotlight

Janine Hirt

Chief Operating Officer

What is your role at Innovate Finance and how long have you been working here for?

Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that I was Head of Community and then Ecosystem Director. I was hired in the first six months of Innovate Finance’s launch so have been here from basically the beginning!

What is it about FinTech that you enjoy the most?

The people – our members and the people that work in this space are passionate, energetic, diverse, and excited about creating real change within the industry!

What do you enjoy getting up to in your time away from work?

I love to travel, although now with a 9-month old baby we are a bit more home-bound! Reading and listening to great live music also top my list.

If you could be stuck in a lift with any 3 people who would you choose and why?

Barack Obama, Thom Yorke, and my husband!

Bruce

Chief Canine Officer

What is your role at Innovate Finance and how long have you been working here for?

I’m the Chief Canine Officer and have been at Innovate Finance for 3 and a half dog years (6 months).

What is it about FinTech that you enjoy the most?

I think the people are the best part of FinTech. Running around the office and our building everyone is so friendly and always stops to give me cuddles and scratches.

What do you enjoy getting up to in your time away from work?

I’m a great fan of the fresh air, so I love exploring the parks and woods near my home. I also enjoy chewing objects, especially shoes, paper and business cards.

If you could be stuck in a lift with any 3 people who would you choose and why?

Victoria Roberts, our former Head of Policy (so I can properly apologise for chewing her shoes)

Scrappy Doo – so we can exchange mischievous stories

Jimmy Chew

Caroline Vaughan

Head of Commercial & Business Development

What is your role at Innovate Finance and how long have you been working here for?

I run Commercial and Business Development and have been with the company since nearly the beginning, so just under 5 years. In an ‘all hands on deck’ mentality, I have had numerous roles over the years, from Programmes to Partnerships, and it has been a pleasure to get to know the whole ecosystem through my many hats.

What is it about FinTech that you enjoy the most?

I love that the narrative accelerates at such an incredible pace and the role is constantly developing- from the early days when as an industry we were writing the rules of blockchain, banking and culture of financial services (and continue to), through to collectively authoring the Global FinTech ‘playbook’. The psyche of the ‘FinTecher’ is consistent: content-obsessed, high adaptability quotient, and a unique hustle which enables FinTech to change the world. It is a pleasure to work alongside such an engaged community as we shape this space and watch how the results have a ripple effect into all sectors.

What do you enjoy getting up to in your time away from work?

With two young children, when I am not discussing the future of payments or wealth management, I am at the playground, ballet recitals or kids birthday parties. I love watching as the technology iterates not just for our generation, but how my kids will view money, financial services and what the ‘piggy bank’ of the future will look like. Having had some practice, I can say with conviction, FinTech makes great conversation for 5th birthday parties! Happy Birthday Innovate Finance.

Rashee Pandey

Head of Partnerships

What is your role at Innovate Finance and how long have you been working here for?

It has almost been a year now. As Head of Partnerships, I’ll share that the most important aspect of my role is to ensure that our members, who are the heart of Innovate Finance, are getting the right support from us.

What is it about FinTech that you enjoy the most?

I love the fact that FinTech is for EVERYONE. It contributes to financial wellness and education, and improves accessibility at the most granular levels.

What do you enjoy getting up to in your time away from work?

Travel, films, gastronomy and spending time with loved ones.

If you could be stuck in a lift with any 3 people who would you choose and why?

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev – Endless questions I have for him!

Nikola Tesla – To be able to tell him how his work is widely recognised by people today! And perhaps, he may be able to get the lift going again.

Iron Man aka Tony Stark – For me to get a closure on the ending of Avengers Endgame.

Josh Townson

Membership & Policy Associate

What is your role at Innovate Finance and how long have you been working here for?

Policy and Membership Associate. I joined at the start of last summer’s World Cup (still not over it), so I have been here a little over a year.

What is it about FinTech that you enjoy the most?

I think the relationship between FinTech and financial inclusion is very exciting – promoting FinTech’s ability to connect people to finance is definitely something I enjoy. Of course, working with so many interesting and diverse people in the space is also rewarding!

What do you enjoy getting up to in your time away from work?

Music, food and travel – and cycling! (not all at the same time).

If you could be stuck in a lift with any 3 people who would you choose and why?

Somebody delivering food, a lift engineer, and someone like Stephen Fry who would have a lot of interesting stories/things to say as I wait to get out!

Fred Raybould

Brand & Design Associate

Q1. What is your role at Innovate Finance and how long have you been working here for?

As brand and design associate, I’ve been producing design work at Innovate Finance for a year and a half, whether that be for social media, web, infographics, print or wayfinding at our events.

Q2. What is it about FinTech that you enjoy the most?

That it’s fresh and disruptive nature is elevating finance to a more inclusive industry, both for those working in it, and for customers previously excluded from accessing financial services helpful to their wellbeing.

Q3. What do you enjoy getting up to in your time away from work?

Exploring interesting new exhibitions at galleries, reading and watching documentaries about the world, and spending time with my friends and family in and outside of London.

Q4. If you could be stuck in a lift with any 3 people who would you choose and why?

Not that I’d want such important people to be stuck in a lift, but renown American designer Paula Scher, Louis Theroux and Ai Wei Wei would be a fascinating conversation to be a starstruck fly on the wall for.
