The digital pound: consultation on a UK central bank digital currency

On 7 February 2023, the Bank jointly published a Consultation Paper with HM Treasury on the digital pound, a UK central bank digital currency (CBDC).

The digital pound would be a new form of digital money issued by the Bank, for use by households and businesses for their everyday payments needs. The consultation paper notes that the digital pound is likely to be needed in the future, but does not yet make a decision on whether to build one.

This webinar, jointly hosted by Innovate Finance and UK Finance, will cover the UK’s proposed model for the digital pound outlined in its consultation paper. We will hear directly from speakers at the Bank of England, with a chance for Q&A.
