The Alison Rose Review of Female Entrepreneurship

Alison Rose, Deputy CEO, NatWest Holdings and CEO, Commercial & Private Banking, has today released the findings from her Review of Female Entrepreneurship, commissioned by Robert Jenrick MP, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury.

The report identified three areas which present the biggest opportunities to help female entrepreneurs:
- Increasing the funding directed towards them
- Greater family care support
- Making entrepreneurship more accessible for women and increasing support locally, through relatable and accessible mentors and networks.
We welcome the detailed findings of the report , particularly the recognition of lower levels of venture capital investment received by female entrepreneurs, an issue that echoes the recent findings in our own VC investment report focussing on the FinTech sector. We were delighted that female founders and innovators from across Innovate Finance membership were able to feed directly into this report.
Charlotte Crosswell, CEO of Innovate Finance, commented:
“The initiatives announced today in Alison Rose’s review have the potential to significantly boost female entrepreneurship across the UK. FinTech, like many other sectors, still has some way to go in terms of gender parity. That’s why I particularly welcome the recommendation to accelerate development and roll-out of entrepreneurship courses to schools and colleges, raising the ambitions of female leaders from an early age.”
Innovate Finance launched this week its own initiative - FinTech for Schools - that aims to inspire the next generation of FinTech leaders, with an emphasis on ensuring the sector is appealing to girls.
