Dr Desné Masie
Economist
Dr Desné Masie is an economist and thought leader in international financial markets, specialising in fintech, regulation and policy. She has held senior roles in academia, media and finance in the UK and South Africa. She is a senior associate in financial services at Global Counsel, and a fellow in international political economy at the Wits School of Governance. She has written for a wide range of financial media, including the Financial Mail, the Guardian, International Business Times, Fintech Futures and Forbes Africa, most recently on crypto-assets, open banking and artificial intelligence. She was named in Innovate Finance’s 2017 Women in Fintech Powerlist. Dr Masie has had invited speaking engagements from the UK and EU Parliaments, Newsweek, the London Business School, the Commonwealth, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, City & Financial, Jersey Finance, and the Frontline Club. Dr Masie holds an MSc in Finance & Financial Law from SOAS, and a PhD in Finance from Edinburgh.
